I’m sufficiently confused and fed up. Somebody pass the donuts.
Something we’ve always done well is that we have an insatiable passion for experimentation. If there is a new way to improve something or eek a little more progress out of an approach, you’ll bet we’ve at least considered it.
For over 10 years, we tried and failed to make meaningful progress. Following the advice from articles and magazines to the tee and still failing miserably. Trust me when I say that having to explain to your friends why you’re still out of shape despite the missed nights out and hours in the gym is not a fun experience.
One evening in 2008, I can clearly remember a phone call with Yusef about how our latest weight loss approach was going (we were both experimenting with the latest advice on carb timing).
When he asked the question “Do you know what your target rate of weight loss is?”, I was stumped.
That isn’t a hard question, not at all. Yet, I had no idea at all.
I didn’t know what my weight was that morning never mind what I was trying to get to, relying on the scale was bad right?
I could have told him exactly when my next meal was, but not what my calories over the week had been.
I could explain what my last skin fold measurements were, but not how my weight had trended over the last 4 weeks.
What’s worse is that even if I did know that information, I had no idea what I would do with it.
This lack of clarity and “bogdown” in the minutia is something we see with nearly every new client we work with. There’s a surplus of passion, dedication and consistency, it’s just applied to the details that don’t really matter that much.
